LinkUs has developed a hand-held artificial larynx, a first in South Korea. The artificial larynx named Blueton has been tested by researchers at Yonsei Univ. With a glowing review of its performance and a planned news release by the Yonsei Univ., LinkUs is preparing for initial orders by late April 2004.
Blueton is a hand-held device designed for use by the voice-disabled. A patient is unable to speak after an operation to remove tumor growth on the larynx. With a missing larynx, the patient is not able to produce the vibration necessary to produce sounds through the larynx. The Blueton simulates the vibration and amplifies the speech through its built-in speaker. With just short practice, the voice-disabled can produce intelligible speech through Blueton
